Campaign group Crowborough Shield has been granted a court hearing to consider whether it can pursue a Judicial Review of the Home Secretary’s decision to use Crowborough Army Camp to accommodate asylum seekers.
The hearing will be heard by a senior judge, who will decide whether there are sufficient legal grounds for the case to proceed to a full Judicial Review.
Wealden District Council confirmed it will support the case and take part in the hearing as an interested party, saying it continues to work with its King’s Counsel (KC) on the matter.
In a statement, the council reiterated its opposition to the Home Office’s plans, saying it does not believe using the army camp is the right solution for anyone.
If permission is granted, the Judicial Review would formally challenge the Home Secretary’s decision in court, potentially delaying or halting the use of the site.
