A man has been charged following the execution of a firearms warrant at a residential address in Crawley.
Sussex Police officers carried out the warrant in the Three Bridges area as part of an investigation into suspected firearms offences. During the operation, officers recovered suspected firearms components and ammunition, which were safely seized.
Following enquiries, Emil Kavaldzhiev, 56, of Farm Close, Crawley, was charged with a number of offences. These include manufacturing or selling a firearm without being a registered dealer, possession of a prohibited weapon, and possession of offensive weapons in a private place.
Kavaldzhiev appeared before Crawley Magistrates’ Court and has since been bailed with strict conditions. He is next due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 16 February.
In addition to Kavaldzhiev, seven other people were arrested at the address during the warrant. These included four men aged 18 to 33 and three women aged 18 to 55. All have since been released on bail while enquiries continue.
Police have reassured the public that the operation was conducted safely and that there is no ongoing risk to the local community. Officers say the weapons recovered during the warrant have been securely removed.
Sussex Police have reiterated their commitment to tackling firearms-related crime and encouraged anyone with information or concerns about weapons or criminal activity in their area to report it to police.
