The incident occurred around 2:30pm when officers from Sussex Police arrived at a property on Gossops Drive, Gossops Green, in connection with an ongoing investigation. Gossops Green Assault Sparks Concern Over Officer Safety

The suspect, identified as 43-year-old Mohammed Rasool of Gossops Drive, eventually fled into a nearby property but was swiftly apprehended. Rasool has since been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, alongside two counts each of actual bodily harm and non-fatal strangulation.

He has been remanded in custody and is set to appear before Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 2 June 2025.

All three injured officers were taken to hospital for treatment, highlighting the physical dangers law enforcement personnel continue to face.

Superintendent Steve Biglands praised the bravery of the officers involved, stating, “My colleagues put their own safety at risk to protect the people of Sussex, and they will continue to receive the full support of Sussex Police.”

He further emphasized that such violence against officers must never be normalized: “Police officers are human beings, and being assaulted while they carry out their duties should never be seen as ‘part of the job’. It is unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”

The incident has reignited conversations around the protection and support of police personnel, with local authorities reaffirming their commitment to prosecuting assaults on officers to the fullest extent of the law.
