A self-employed taxi driver from Hastings has been found guilty of multiple sexual offences following a trial at Lewes Crown Court.
Abdulhamid Alammar, 34, of the Baldslow area of St Leonards-on-Sea, was convicted of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity. The offences took place in Hastings in late 2024.
A jury found him not guilty of false imprisonment.
The court heard that on the evening of 29 November 2024, a woman in her 30s had booked a taxi home from a friend’s address in Hastings. She was picked up by Alammar but instead of driving her to the requested destination, he diverted to a secluded location where he sexually assaulted her.
The incident came to light while officers were investigating a separate sexual assault reported in April 2025 by another woman in Hastings.
After the earlier incident was disclosed to police, the victim was supported by specially trained officers and a full investigation was launched.
Alammar was arrested and charged in relation to the November offence. At the time of his arrest he was already being held on remand over the April 2025 allegations.
He previously faced trial for the April offences in October 2025, where he was convicted of sexual assault but acquitted of rape and sexual assault by penetration. He remained in custody ahead of the second trial.
Following proceedings at Lewes Crown Court on Friday, 6 March, Alammar was found guilty of sexual assault and causing a person to engage in non-penetrative sexual activity relating to the November incident.
He has been remanded in custody and will be sentenced for both convictions at Lewes Crown Court on a date yet to be confirmed.
Detective Constable Christina Bales, of the Hastings Safeguarding Investigation Unit, said the offences were serious and predatory.
She said: “These were serious and predatory offences committed against women who should have felt safe. I would like to commend the victims for their courage in coming forward and supporting the investigation.
“We remain committed to ensuring victims of sexual offences receive support and that offenders are brought before the courts.”
Police continue to encourage anyone who has been the victim of sexual offences to report it. Reports can be made online or by calling 101, while emergencies should always be reported by calling 999. Victims will be listened to, supported and treated with respect.
