A 31-year-old man from Brighton has been found guilty of rape and multiple sexual assaults following two separate incidents involving young women who did not know each other.
Offences in Brighton
Sam Soyoye, 31, of Windsor Street, Brighton, attacked two women after inviting them back to his address in separate incidents.
- In June 2024, Soyoye raped a woman in the early hours after luring her back to his home.
- Just three months later, on 3 September 2024, he sexually assaulted another woman in similar circumstances.
Arrest and Charges
Soyoye was arrested later in September 2024 and charged with:
- One count of rape
- Three counts of sexual assault
He denied all charges but was convicted by a jury at Lewes Crown Court on Wednesday, 3 September 2025. He has been remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on 6 November.
Soyoye had also faced an additional rape charge relating to an alleged incident in May 2025, but no further action will be taken on that count.
Support for Victims
Throughout the investigation, both women received care and guidance from specially trained officers.
Detective Aimee Collier, from the Brighton Safeguarding Investigations Unit, praised the victims’ courage:
“It is testament to the brave and courageous victims who came forward to report these horrendous offences that we have today seen a guilty verdict.
Sussex Police are committed to thoroughly investigating all reports of rape and sexual assault, ensuring victims receive the support they need while bringing offenders to justice. I would urge anyone who has been a victim of rape or sexual assault to come forward and speak to us.”
