A Bold celebration of Climate Action, Body Positivity, and Cycling Freedom

Brighton is once again ready to bare all as hundreds of cyclists gather for the 19th annual Naked Bike Ride this Saturday, July 5, 2025. Starting at Preston Park around midday, riders will set off at 2pm on a joyful, defiant journey through the city’s most iconic streets. But this is far more than a cheeky summer spectacle—it’s a powerful statement about climate change, car dominance, and road safety, all wrapped up in a celebration of bodies, bikes, and Brighton’s rebellious spirit.

The slogan “bare as you dare” sums up the magic of the event perfectly. Some participants go fully nude, others opt for body paint, fancy dress, or colourful accessories. All are united by a desire to show how vulnerable cyclists are on busy roads, while highlighting that bikes burn calories instead of fossil fuels. And of course, it’s also a celebration of body positivity—there’s a welcoming space for every shape, size, age, and level of confidence.

The seven-mile ride snakes through the heart of Brighton and Hove, taking in the Palace Pier, the Royal Pavilion, and the towering i360, before finishing with a splash at Black Rock naturist beach. The sight of hundreds of semi-naked cyclists gliding past landmarks creates a playful atmosphere, but the message couldn’t be more serious: our streets should be safer, our cities greener, and our lives less reliant on cars.

This year’s timing was carefully chosen to avoid clashing with other events and to let Brighton’s ride shine on its own day. As the wheels turn, the energy of the city transforms—onlookers cheer, music drifts through the air, and riders pedal together with smiles as wide as the seafront. The event ends with a relaxed beach party, complete with an invitation to dive into the sea if the weather behaves.

The community spirit is unmistakable. Volunteers set up from early morning, painting bodies, decorating bikes, and helping riders feel welcome. Sussex Police support the event as a peaceful, creative protest, and families are welcome too—children under 16 can join clothed and accompanied by an adult. Everyone from seasoned cyclists to curious first-timers is encouraged to take part or come along to cheer, photograph, and soak up the unique atmosphere.

Whether you’re drawn by the environmental message, the body-positive celebration, or the sheer joy of seeing hundreds of people cycling naked along the seafront, the Brighton Naked Bike Ride promises a day like no other. It’s an unforgettable reminder that sometimes, the most important messages are best delivered with a smile, a sense of freedom, and a lot less clothes.
