A blaze in an outdoor bin store triggered a multi-engine fire service response in Bexhill on Wednesday afternoon (4 December).
East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) said they were called at 2.50pm to reports of a bin store alight in Western Road, with smoke affecting nearby buildings.
Four fire engines from Bexhill, Hastings’ Bohemia Road and The Ridge stations were sent to the scene. Crews issued a public warning advising people to avoid the area, while local residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed due to drifting smoke.
Fire brought under control
In an update, ESFRS confirmed the fire was extinguished by 3.52pm.
By 4.16pm, the incident was being scaled down to two fire engines as crews carried out damping-down operations. Firefighters used thermal imaging cameras to check for any remaining hot spots.
No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the fire has not yet been confirmed.
