A Arrest made over offensive graffiti in Bognor has been arrested in connection with extensive criminal damage at Hotham Park, Bognor Regis.

Last month, police appealed for information after swastikas and other symbols were drawn and carved into more than 50 pieces of street furniture, causing thousands of pounds in damage.

Following enquiries, a suspect was identified. An off-duty police constable spotted him in Bognor and alerted colleagues, leading to his arrest on Monday, June 30. Officers found three black marker pens and a swastika template kit in his possession.

Sussex Police have confirmed that a 42-year-old man, of no fixed address, was arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage. He has been bailed with conditions while further enquiries continue.

Sergeant Ross Beaumont said: “We know this vandalism caused considerable distress and received national attention. We’re grateful for the public’s support in helping to disrupt this behaviour. Bognor Regis is a fantastic community, and this is a powerful example of residents coming together to show that such hateful acts will not be tolerated here. Our investigation is progressing swiftly.”
