Armed police were deployed to a residential street in Brighton earlier today (Monday, May 13) following reports of a man threatening to harm himself.
Officers attended the scene in Carden Avenue at around 11.25am, where they engaged with the individual.
A 44-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of possessing a shotgun without a licence. He was safely taken into custody, and no injuries were reported.
A Sussex Police spokesperson confirmed: “We responded to concerns for a man’s welfare. A 44-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of a shotgun without a licence and remains in custody at this time.”
There is no wider threat to the public, and police have reassured local residents that the situation is under control. Enquiries are ongoing.
