The A29 remains closed in both directions following a serious early-morning crash involving an overturned HGV at Fairmile Bottom, near Madehurst.

Emergency services were called to the scene at around 2am after reports of a road traffic collision. The heavy goods vehicle overturned, prompting a large emergency response.

Three fire crews and a heavy rescue tender from West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service attended the incident, working to make the scene safe and assist those involved.

Traffic monitoring service Sussex Travel Watch has since confirmed the A29 at Slindon Road remains closed both ways following the earlier RTC involving the overturned HGV.

Diversions are in place via the A27 and the A284 in both directions.

The A27 eastbound is reported to be slow with queuing traffic from Fontwell east towards Arundel as drivers divert around the closure.

Motorists are urged to avoid the area where possible and allow extra time for their journeys while recovery work continues.
