Emergency services rushed to the scene after a car and pedestrian were involved in a serious incident
Bognor Regis, West Sussex – Emergency services were called to a serious incident in High Street, Bognor Regis, at around 5pm on Tuesday, July 30.
The road was temporarily closed as police, paramedics, and fire crews worked at the scene of the collision, which involved a car and a pedestrian.
Driver Pronounced Dead at the Scene
A spokesperson for Sussex Police confirmed:
“Emergency services responded to a report of a collision in the High Street, Bognor, shortly before 5pm on July 30.
The collision involved a car and a pedestrian.
Sadly, an 83-year-old local man who was driving the car was pronounced deceased at the scene.
His next of kin have been informed, and our thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
The death is not being treated as suspicious, and a report will be prepared for HM Coroner.”
Road Closure and Investigation
The High Street remained closed into the evening to allow for investigation and recovery. Traffic was diverted and bus services affected during the closure.
Local businesses and bystanders expressed shock at the scene, which saw a large emergency presence including ambulance services and Sussex Police units.
