Worthing is seeing a positive impact from heightened police visibility and targeted crime prevention efforts as part of the national Safer Streets Summer campaign. Running until the end of September, the initiative tackles seasonal rises in shoplifting, anti-social behaviour, and other crimes while maintaining year-round hotspot patrols in key areas.

Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Sharon Sawyer confirmed that hotspot policing is delivering real results, with sustained reductions in serious violence and anti-social behaviour in problem areas. Officers and PCSOs are conducting more frequent patrols, supported by night marshals on weekends, ensuring a stronger presence when and where it’s needed most. Close collaboration with local businesses and residents allows police to address concerns quickly while acting as a deterrent to potential offenders.

Community engagement is also playing a vital role in the campaign. Police are hosting public events and organising youth activities in Victoria Park, using public spaces in positive ways to discourage crime and build trust. Inspector Sawyer urged residents to continue reporting concerns, emphasising that community input helps direct resources effectively.

Councillor Rosey Whorlow, Cabinet Member for Safety, Equalities, and Inclusion, praised the initiative, noting that residents and businesses feel safer thanks to the increased police presence. She highlighted the importance of connection, with officers actively listening to local concerns and fostering stronger relationships. This proactive approach is not only reducing crime but also strengthening community spirit, making Worthing a better place for everyone.

With visible patrols, strong partnerships, and ongoing public engagement, Worthing’s Safer Streets Summer campaign is proving that a united approach to safety can deliver lasting results.
