Eight fire crews and a specialist command unit were deployed to tackle a house fire in Maresfield this afternoon, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service (ESFRS) confirmed.
Emergency teams were called at 2:11pm (14.11) on 28 November to reports of a property fire in Cackle Street, Maresfield, near Cackle Street, Maresfield.
A large-scale response was launched, with eight fire appliances and a Command Control Unit sent to the scene. ESFRS confirmed that no people were reported inside the property and there have been no casualties or missing persons reported.
Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a high-pressure hose reel to attack the flames and bring the fire under control.
As the incident unfolded, ESFRS issued repeated safety warnings, urging the public to avoid the area, while advising nearby residents to keep doors and windows closed to prevent smoke ingress.
An update at 3:40pm (15.40) confirmed that all crews remained at the scene and the safety advice remained in place.
A further update at 6:30pm (18:30) revealed the response had been scaled back to four fire appliances, though firefighters were still actively tackling the fire.
The service reiterated: “We ask residents to continue to keep windows and doors closed.”
The cause of the fire has not yet been disclosed, and crews remain on scene.
