John Mann's Treasure Chest

John was born in Brighton and decided on a career in radio when he first heard radio Caroline and London as a school boy.

He launched Radio Atlantis, the 70s land based pirate station which broadcast to Southern England on 187 and 236 metres from a studio in his Nans garden shed at Portland Rd Hove and used the on air name of Barbarous Plume.

He also did shows on Radio 312 Falmer from Sussex University and was a DJ at the Brighton clubs including The Birds Nest, Seven Stars, Cinderellas and Radio Top Shop in Western Rd as well as a Life Guard on Hove Beach.

After a spell on Canadian radio he joined the then BBC Radio Brighton and then Southern Sound Radio when it was launched to present the weekday 4 till 7pm show and Saturday night Soul and Funk show which was often live from Brightons clubs and pubs.

He then moved north to help launch Great North Radio in Newcastle presenting weekday mid-mornings across the Northeast and Yorkshire.
Several years later he became station manager and mid morning presenter for West Sound Radio Dumfries and Galloway and then moved to BBC Northeast and Cumbria as a programme consultant and presenter of regional shows on BBC Cumbria Newcastle and Tees and regular shows on BBC Cumbria.

John now lives in the countryside with his wife Alison, Labrador dog Poppy and cats Smudgie and Pumpkin.

John Mann’s Treasure Chest will be every Monday evening at 7pm only on Regency Radio.

John says “It's Great to be broadcasting across my home patch again after so many years and playing a mix of Soul Motown Rock Reggae with a few surprises along the way!”
